Description
The compressor in an ice maker is the core component of its refrigeration system. Its primary function is to compress low-temperature, low-pressure refrigerant gas into high-temperature, high-pressure gas, providing the driving force for the refrigeration cycle. It draws in the low-temperature, low-pressure gaseous refrigerant (such as R404a or R134a) after it has absorbed heat in the evaporator and mechanically compresses it into a high-temperature, high-pressure gas. This process supplies the energy required for the refrigerant to release heat (liquefy) in the condenser, throttle through the expansion valve, and absorb heat (vaporize) in the evaporator.
The compressor is controlled by a thermostat or pressure switch. When the evaporator temperature reaches the set value (e.g., -15°C), the compressor shuts off and restarts once the temperature rises again. Acting as the "heart" of the ice maker, the compressor continuously drives heat exchange by compressing the refrigerant, lowering the evaporator surface temperature below freezing (typically between -10°C and -20°C), thereby enabling rapid ice formation. Its performance directly determines ice production speed, energy consumption, and system stability.
